The Matthew J. Stahl Foundation

The Matthew J. Stahl Foundation was established to honor a remarkable man-our dad, husband to Patricia, and father of 14 children. Together with our mom, we sought to create something special that reflects his passions and preserves
his memory.

Dad grew up on a farm in Kenosha, Wisconsin, with our grandparents, Mimi and Papa. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and worked as a Supervisor of Construction for the Navy. However, his true passion was the work he did on weekends with his wife and children.

Our parents owned multiple businesses, including Stahl Engineering and Stahl Construction. We often spent weekends shooting grades in open fields or exploring old buildings Dad aimed to repurpose. He had a keen eye for undervalued properties, affectionately calling them “skinny heifers,” and took pride in transforming them into something special.
Working alongside Dad, we learned invaluable lessons about hard work, integrity, and compassion. He treated everyone with respect and sought mutually beneficial deals. His generosity was evident; for instance, he would often return December rent to tenants, encouraging them to use it for their children’s Christmas.

Dad emphasized the importance of faith and education, sending all 14 of us to private schools-a testament to his commitment to our upbringing. The weekends spent with him not only taught us practical skills but also reinforced the values he cherished.
He frequently shared stories about Mimi and Papa, ensuring their legacy lived on. This practice has been a source of comfort since his passing in 2021, inspiring us to keep his memory alive through storytelling.

The Matthew J. Stahl Foundation embodies the love and values passed down through generations. Our mission is to give back to those in need, making a positive impact as our parents did. We aim to extend the blessings we’ve received to others, honoring Dad’s generous spirit.

Dad’s life provided us with countless opportunities to learn and grow. Through the foundation, we strive to continue his legacy, paying it forward in his good name.
